Becoming a foster is not a lifelong commitment, it is a commitment to save a life.
We feel that foster homes offer our rescued cats and dogs an unique opportunity to experience immediate shelter and needs, while learning what it feels like to be loved in a home. We love seeing our fosters learn what it means to play with toys, sleep in a space that’s warm and safe, and figure out how to behave around kids, other cats, and dogs.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster for Tails of Freedom Rescue Inc. Fostering a cat or dog in need is a very rewarding experience as you play a key role in changing their lives! Compassion, patience, dedication, and flexibility are important qualities we look for in a foster. Most animals we bring into care have never experienced a gentle hand or love and require lots of TLC to get them ready to be adopted.
How does it work?
If you have never fostered before, it can be hard to think of all the questions that you may have. Here are some frequently ask questions:
Q. Will I have to pay for any expenses?
A. No, Tails of Freedom Rescue will provide you will all the necessary supplies for your foster. All vet fees will also be paid by Tails of Freedom Rescue. There are regular supply pickup days biweekly and there are supply pickup location available to our foster homes in between supply days.
Q. I can't drive, can I still foster?
A. Yes, we have many foster parents who do not drive. We do ask that if you require pick up and drop off of your foster to vet appointments and to adoption events that you are present when they are to be picked up and dropped off at your home. As well, we will require you to reach out to our team in advance so that arrangements can be made.
Q. How long will I have my foster for?
A. We do ask that fosters commit to at least 2 weeks with the animal so they do not have to move from home to home. It is always preferred the animal stay with you until ready for adoption. Our foster coordinator does her best to match what you are looking for, and a foster home best suited for the animal.
Q. What happens if the foster animal is not working out in my household?
A. We understand that not every animal will be a purrfect fit and that emergencies come up and the foster animal may need to be moved. We will find new placement for the foster as soon as possible.
Q. Can I adopt my foster?
A. Absolutely! TFR fosters will always have first choice on if they would like to adopt their foster animal once they are ready for adoption.
Q. What kind of support system will I have?
A. All fosters are added to our foster/volunteer page that is full of experienced people who are always happy to help share advice.
